Scouting America

The American Legion Post 30 has been working with scouting for many years and feels that the values learned in scouting are very beneficial to today’s world.  We proudly support and share in the mission of Scouting America and the Northern Nevada Area Council.

Scouting American mission statement: “The mission of Scouting America is to prepare our young people to make moral and ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.”

Junior Reserve Officer Training (WCSD JROTC)

The American Legion is a partner with the Washoe County School District Junior Reserve Officer Training (WCSD JROTC) program. The JROTC program is part of a high school curriculum offering a variety of leadership and military science classes to challenge the cadets and to help them become successful leaders.

The joint mission statement of the WCSD JROTC program is: To motivate young people to be citizens of character by instilling in them a sense of personal responsibility, accomplishment and the importance of serving their nation and community.

American Legion Post 30 supports this mission by associating with the JROTC units at Sparks High School, Reed High School, Spanish Springs High School, and North Valleys High School. The JROTC cadets of various schools have as assisted Sparks Post 30 with various landscaping jobs, cleanup projects and color guard presentations. Sparks Post 30 presents both a Military Excellence and a Scholastic Excellence medal to each school to their deserving cadets at the school’s annual awards event. The JROTC and Sparks American Legion partnership has a rich, past, present relationship that we will work on to continue into the future.
