ARMED FORCES DAY
On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy and Air Force Days. The single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department, the Department of Defense. Currently, there are six branches of our Armed Forces, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and on December 25th, 2019 Space Force became the sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces organized under the Department of the Air Force.

Opening ceremony begins promptly at 1100hrs with JROTC color guard presenting and posting the colors. This is a military themed event everyone will be called to attention during our opening ceremony. We invite you to arrive as early as 10:30 to check out the military vehicles, make a bid on our silent auction items or have the kids play some free games. All tables will close for the Opening Ceremony.
American Legion Duby Reid Post 30 hosted their first AFD event in 2023. Our mission was then and is now, “To connect our residents to their Veterans and Active Military, those we should never forget!” The heart of our event is the many Military Tribute Displays (MTDs). We showcase these MTDs’ inside our hall, away from the activity and noise to allow a time for our visitors to learn and reflect on the experiences and lives of our local Veterans and Active Military. I have witnessed the deep heart felt emotions of those viewing our MTDs’ as seen by others who visit National Monuments honoring America’s Veterans and Military.
We are the only local organization that honors our veterans and active military in this unique way. Inside our hall is a place for honor and reverence. We want folks to leave with a feeling of appreciation, gratitude and renewed patriotic spirit for our military and country!
Come and meet local Guest of Honor – WWII “Battle Of The Bulge” Veteran, US Army Sergeant, Anthony”Tony” Pagano 99 years young!
